The Challenge
Businesses with distributed assets — vehicles, equipment, deliveries — need to know where things are in real time. Existing solutions were either too expensive, too rigid, or required heavy on-premise infrastructure. The goal was to build a lightweight, scalable tracking platform that could handle thousands of devices reporting their position simultaneously.
What We Built
Locationz is a cloud-native device tracking service with a clean REST API for device management and a WebSocket layer for real-time position streaming. The platform ingests GPS data from a wide range of hardware trackers, normalises it, and makes it available through a responsive web dashboard and API.
- Real-time tracking — live device positions via WebSocket with sub-second latency
- Geofencing — configurable zones with automated alerts on entry/exit
- Historical playback — full route history with filtering and export
- Multi-tenant API — secure, token-based access for integrating with third-party systems
- Auto-scaling infrastructure — handles traffic spikes without manual intervention
Results
The platform processes millions of location updates daily with high availability. Clients integrate via the API to power their own dashboards, dispatch systems, and analytics — keeping their operations visible and under control.
